The mission of the Practical Nursing Program is to prepare individuals
for successful mastery of the competencies required of the practical
nurse and for successful completion of the National Licensure Exam
leading to licensure as a licensed practical nurse.
Education of the practical nurse is characterized by its emphasis on
clinical-practical experiences necessary to meet common nursing
problems. The curriculum is based on concepts from the biological and
behavioral sciences in a planned sequence of correlated theory and
clinical experience. This is achieved through selected learning
experiences progressing from simple to complex. These experiences are
provided in order to offer the practical nurse student the opportunity
to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that are essential for the
practice of nursing and for providing the foundation for continuing
personal and professional growth and development.
To apply for the Program, a potential applicant must
first successfully pass the Nurse Entrance Test (NET). This test is
offered at this school at various times each year at a cost of $25.
The NET consists of three basic segments: reading comprehension, math
abilities, and personal aspects with only the reading and math portions
requiring passing scores. Applicants are required to score 51% in
reading and 42% in math to pass; both sections must be successfully passed.
Test scores are kept on file at this school for two (2) years.
Re-testing can be done once per term with the same school. Transfer NET scores are
acceptable, provided they meet stated criteria.
Potential applicants passing the NET will be mailed an application
packet. The packet includes a request for a high school transcript/GED
equivalency, letters of recommendation, completion of a school application
as well as a Program application. Application packets must be returned
by a date specified by the Program Coordinator. Returned application
packets will be reviewed for completeness and eligible applicants will be
contacted with an interview date and time. Following the interview
process, a class of 30 students will be selected to begin training the
following September.
The PN class meets for one (1) year, from September to August. The
approximate cost is $4,200. Financial assistance is available for
eligible applicants; FAFSA applications must be completed and
processed by May 1. Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grants, up to
$1,300 per year, are available to qualifying applicants.
Those interested in seeking admission to the Practical
Nursing Program at the Tennessee Technology Center at Hartsville must first
successfully pass the Nurse Entrance Test (NET). The test schedule for
the next class is posted at the above link.
Three hours or more are needed for testing. Please arrive 15-30
minutes early to prepare. Payment accepted by Money Order, Check or
Credit Card (MC/VISA).
Due to the increase in the number of prospective applicants, you can now
pre-register for the NET exam. Please call 374-2147 to request a
pre-registration form.
NOTE: Pre-registration is on a first come/first serve basis
until registration is full. Registration/payment on day of test is
